Donna McMahon

Donna McMahon has had a long professional life teaching, with the majority of her career as a String Instructor in Townsville with Education Queensland from 1973 to 2010.  She has also enjoyed teaching in private studio conditions, but group teaching/conducting/workshops/camps remain the great joy of her career.

Donna graduated from Qld Conservatorium after four years of study which was combined with a teaching component from Kelvin Grove.  She was Concertmaster of both the Conservatorium Orchestra and Queensland Youth Orchestra.   She obtained her Master of Music in 2002 – research topic – chamber music for young players.

Just Stick to Them

From the moment a group of young students enters their first string class their lives can be changed forever.   “You just set clear, firm expectations and stick to them.”  (Gerald Doan)  Donna will share ideas regarding setting up the teaching area; group dynamics; lesson pacing:  posture and intonation.
